98 5.4 Stalls
MY 98 EB 5.4 4x4 started tonight, then stalled after about 3 seconds and the theft light was flashing. It didn't stumble or anything, just died. Then it cranked, but would not start. Tried again and it cranked but didn't start. Third time I turned the key all the way off, then it fired right up. The wife says it has done that a few times over the last few months. I tried to get more detail out of her, but thats all she could remember. The last time I had a starting problem, it was the IAC valve, but the truck would start and immediately die. That was over a year ago. This time it ran for a couple of seconds then died. There are no other symptoms. It drives fine otherwise. Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like the transponder in the key. The ignition may not be picking up the key when its inserted. The vehicle will just sit there and crank with a no start like you mentioned. It will also flash the theft light rapidly. If you have another set of keys, try that first for a few days and see if that cures the issue.
