FICM Flashed
FICM Flashed
I was reading on a thread where a guy was talking about getting rid of his diesel and getting a gasser because he had heard of all the issues with the 6.0, someone said just make sure you put the right fluids in, good parts, practice good maintence, and make sure you have the FICM flashed to the latest version. So I can just take my truck into the dealer and have them flash my FICM? Does anyone know what it costs to do this?
So, backstory first. The reason for that advice is that there was a flash that Ford put out once that IIRC buzzed the injectors and could cause damage to the circuit board in the FICM if engine voltage fell too low. Theoretically, in later flashes Ford got the same benefits of that flash without risking running too much amperage through the FICM, so common advice for an average owner is to get the latest Ford flash so you know what you're dealing with exactly. If you have access to a scan tool that can read the FICM flash version and then you can pull it, figure out which one it is, decide if you want to run what you have or not, and are probably the kind of person more likely to catch something like an engine voltage or FICM issue before it damages anything regardless of which flash is in it. Simplicity: reflash it. Want to put effort into it: figure out what you have and if you want to change.
It's probably an hour of shop time ($80-120) to reflash the truck for you, they might not bother charging you at all if you're in for something else that they can bill labor for. My preference is to test the FICM, then if it checks out call Powerhungry Performance and get a PCM rollback paired with one of their lower-end FICM tunes (Econ or Atlas 40). If the FICM fails, send it to Ed at FICMrepair.com and have him load the new FICM tune during his repair.
