In each mirror there are two friction pins (toward the outside edge) and two jackscrews (toward the inside edge). The friction pins just help hold the mirror glass in the housing and the jackscrews are inserted into the motor sockets (these push and pull the mirror glass from side to side and up and down depending on which way the motor is spinning). All four of these pins have little plastic ***** at the ends that insert into sockets on the back of the mirror glass. If you go to the Muth Mirror Systems website (www.muthco.com), click on "cars and trucks", choose your "make and model", and click "download instruction manual", you'll get an Acrobat PDF instruction manual. This manual is actually for changing your standard mirrors to their signal type, but it is also useful for just replacing the glass, which I did on my truck. One important thing to remember: heat the sockets on the back of the mirror with a heat gun before pushing it back into the housing so that the ***** on the ends of the pins will snap into place without bending or breaking.
I had my driver side mirror on my Ford 2002 Ranger replaced because it was continuously shaking while on the highway going over 50mph. I called today and told them the same thing is happening with the new mirror. (They just replaced it two days ago.)
They said, "Well you know there is going to be a little shaking." Ok, yes, I understand that.. but Not THIS Much.. after the passenger side shakes very little.
Thanks for all of the information, DIV and to the others. I have printed this out and am taking it to the dealership tomorrow. I hope they are able to follow these instructions! Thanks again!
