On larger trucks does the passenger side mirror normally stick out further than the driver side mirror? Does the entire width of the mirror have to extend beyond the widest part of the truck to get a good view of whats behind? I will mock the mirrors up, before I cut the ends of the C Frame off, but Im assuming if the entire width of the mirror extends beyond the side of the truck, that is the maximum distance the mirror would need to be mounted from the cab (or flatbed headache/bulkhead if its wider than the cab).
They do need to stick out past the headboard, otherwise you won't be able to see. Mine has the round mirrors, although they look good, it i every difficult to back up a trailer with them.
Thanks GB. I had overlooked you had those awesome stock long arms in another post about Mary Anne. The are gettin impossible to find. Im tryying the big west coast truck mirrors on mine (not the juniors), but the Retrac that mount on the middle of the C Frame. Most west coast mirrors mount from the top and the bottom of the C Frame. My flatbed is a dually, like yours, but a 56 F-250. I wanted to put the smoke stacks beside the cab instead of thru the middle of the bed. Im hoping my mirrors dont "dwarf" the truck and will tuck them in as close to the cab as I can. I will see if I remember how to post a photo. Thanks for your reply. You confirmed what I assumed. Im hoping with 8" wide mirror, I won't need the full 8" extended, just a good portion of it. Im also concerned about those huge mirrors restricting vision, but I guess whatever truck they are mounted on has the same issues?
