I have a 1998 Expy 4.6, is there a way to tighten the driver side-side view mirror?(the glass). When I'm out on the highway doing about 65-70 mph and look at my mirror, it seems to shimmer(for the lack of a better term). Do anyone else have this problem?
I've got a '98 also, and I had the driver's side mirror replaced under warranty about a year ago because of the same problem. Now the passenger side mirror glass is loose.
I just had my passenger side replaced, which cost over $200.00. Firm as can be now. So I either have to replace the whole unit or just deal with the glass being loose?
Any type of coverage on these things after 3-36.I just got a 98 and it shakes like crazy...will the dealer do anything besides charge full price even though it's a common problem??
Not sure. I've got the extended warranty, so I'll wait 'til I have it in for another repair to get the mirror fixed. I've got a list of small "concerns" I'll get fixed all at once (rear seat belt latch covers that slide down to expose the latch mech., strong odor of antifreeze after driving on the highway with no apparent leak, squeaking/rattling tensioner pulley).
I just checked with my dealership about my loose driver side-side view mirror. The only way to fix it is to replace the whole unit. I think I'll just deal with it, as the only time it happens is when I'm on the highway....
Has anyone looked into just getting a new set of the plastic pins? I replaced both mirrors with some I got from Muth mirrors and I could see how the ball-and-socket pins could get some "slop" in them, causing the looseness described here.
I have a 97 Expy and it does the same thing. I don't believe it is the glass though. I put an extended mirror on it while towing my boat and that mirror was terrible. Short term fix was I put a Zip Tie around the mirror where it folds in and no more shake.
I just replaced my mirrors, from Muth and noticed there wasn't a connector to plug in the heated mirror. I thought all Eddie Baurers came with heated mirrors. The new mirrors had the elements, but the vehicle did not have any place for them to plug into????
I just got a set from Meuth also.Mine weren't shaking or loose. To all of you who have replaced the glass, make sure the center pin is clipped in securely to the center of the mirror. If it isn't, it will ccause it to shake like crazy! As far as the heated mirrors.....Mine is an Eddie Bauer also it has the Signal mirrors on it. if you still have the orininal instructions, it tells you how to hook up the element. All you should need is a good ground and a switched power lead, Which if you want, you could cut in a toggle switch and turn them on whenever needed. My wifes Taurus has heated mirrors, and they are "Hot" all the time.
If your mirror glass is loose, it might not be seated all the way on the center pivot (just push on the center of the glass to see if it is seated). Also, your friction pins or jack srews may be loose or the ball heads may be broken-off one or more of them. I had this problem and bought new pins and screws from MITO, who is a supplier to Muth, who is a supplier to Ford. Call MITO at 1-800-433-6486. The pins were $ 5.00 each. Don't let your dealer make you buy a whole new mirror!
