Moving cowl vent handle

Moving cowl vent handle
I need to move the cowl vent handle from the center of the dash to near the steering column so I can mount the under dash AC/heat unit. Has anyone done this and have suggestions? I would prefer to not try to reinvent the wheel because I am sure this has been done before. It looks like with the ac unit mounted there will be room for air flow from the vent to the floor so hate to just bolt it closed.
