Hope one of you all can point me in the right direction. I have a 52 f-1 panel and want to install an electric motor to operate the cowl vent. I live in Pensacola, FL and it do get hot here. I love the air flow the cowl vent gives me. Right now, no a/c so the air flow is appreciated. I intend to put air in it and will be building an dash extention to house the a/c vents and controls. By putting the motor on the cowl vent, it will be much easier to operate with the additonal dash obstruction. I have seen a unit advertised to make the adaptation but for the life of me can not locate it again. Does anyone out there know the answer?
Try Rocky Hinge Company, www.rockyhinge.com. They have one, OCV 01, for $80. I bought mine from Ball's Hot Rods but I don't think they are in business any longer. I have purchased other items from Rocky Hinge and the quality was always good. 56FUN
I bought the kit from Sac Vintage ford for my 54. I believe it was about $150 complete with brackets and prewired switch. It works well and the install was only complicated by the fact that I installed the A/C system first! The motorized cowl vent should be done first, then the A/C unit. Good luck, John
I got one from the last of the stock at Ball's, but found the same one in a catalog from Yearwood. It's around $60, but it is also univeral, for cowl vents, trunks, glove box doors, etc, so you have to do your own engineering to hook it up right.
If you engineer it right, then I think an electric window motor would do. However, that seems like a lot of work to accomplish in a very cramped space. Good luck with it and let us know your progress. Future readers will need to know also. John
