My truck had a 390 with a c6... no drive shaft...
390 was busted... so I dropped in a 5.0... but I used
the stock towers and the same c6 guts in a small block housing...
mounted back in exactly in the same holes. found a driveshaft out of
a mid 70s ford with a 390 and c6... perfect fit.
My 65 has a 3 sp/OD with column shift. I've been toying with the idea of putting in a C6. The old OD is not a bad deal but as old as it is, it's getting pretty tempermental. Anyway... I found a guy with a 390/C6 out of a 71 F-250. I went and looked at it and it looks like it will bolt right onto the same rear mount and the driveshaft yoke is exactly the same as on my OD unit. I even snagged the PS unit from that truck. Now i'm looking to find about a 68 or so steering column with PS/Auto. The only odd thing I noticed about the tranny is the speedo cable hookup is on the passenger side and has a male treaded nipple instead of the hole and retaining ring setup my original tranny has. I guess i'll look for a newer style speedo cable and see if it is the same on the speedo end.
Thanks for the input guys
I swapped in a c6 on my 66 the only issues I ran into was the forward cross member being riveted in so I had some clearance issues getting everything back in and I had to have my drive shaft shortend. but it was worth it and I guess you can't really consider those as issue. it was sooooo worth it! I drove that truck from tahoe, ca to yorktown, va non-stop in 59 hours just me and my two Amstaff's and then from there to ketchikan, ak with them, the wife and a trailer in tow! you will not regret the swap!

Get a speedo cable for an original '65 w/ automatic, it will hook right up....at least mine did. Mine was an original COM truck and everything bolted in except for shortening the driveshaft and relocating the rear x-member.
