Ok, I'm kind of new to diesels. I believe I have an fuel/water separator somewhere under my hood and I'm supposed to drain it every 5,000 miles. Can anyone tell me where I can find this sucker?
Your Ex is a 7.3, right? 2003s came in either 6.0 or 7.3 versions. The 7.3 water drain is on top of the engine -- round canister where the filter/separator is. If you climb up and look behind it, you'll see a yellow handle. Rotate it 90 degrees clockwise to open. You might want to put a short piece of 3/8ths rubber fuel line on the end of the drain tube. It will make a mess if you don't. I leave the rubber extension hose on mine full time, and tuck it up into a hole in the frame to keep it out of the way.
If you happen to have a 6.0L, good luck. It's on the frame rail under the driver's door and requires an allen wrench to open. REAL messy.
EDIT: You can see the end of the drain tube by the passenger side exhaust manifold. You have to climb under the front of the truck on that side to see it.
