I have had a set of these heads redone for quite some time now and was wondering how much different they would perform with what i have done to my 460.
Have a 78 grand marquis 460 in my 79 f-150 with the D3VE-A2A Heads.
RV cam , HEI Dist, L&L Headers, 750 4bl carb.
My question is would the Dove-c heads be worth putting on? I know the compression goes up a bit, maybe someone here has tried this out there.
Thx
it is a fairly cheap power upgrade as the Dove heads will raise the CR approx 1 pt. seeing as the mid 70's 460's only had around 8:1 give or take a couple of points, this only raises the compression to around 9:1 which is still accepatble with pump gas. you will probably have to use mid or premium grade gas, but still be able to use pump gas.
the only thing is that you will have to more than likely get different pushrods. you will have to assemble everything then get or make an adjustable pushrod checker to get the correct length. the early blocks had a shorter deck than later blocks and the Dove used different rocker arm setup then the later D3 heads, so you will more than likely not be able to use factory pushrods.
the Dove heads and D3 heads are other than the different chamber sizes, fairly identical heads as far as valve sizes and port sizes, so you won't see any advantage there. the power increase will be from the compression gain.
