A buddy of mine has an 01 and his truck is currently blowing blue smoke and the turbo is not spooling up worth a darn. Any suggestions?

That what my friend's 2000 F350 did before I rebuilt the turbo. Had around 186,000 miles on it. Sealing ring on turbine sid of shaft was completely gone. Compressor back plate and thrust collar were worn out also.
Well my buddy has been trying to post on here but for some reason can't post. His user name is RedNeckShop.
Anyhow the update is that the IC boots look good and it only blows smoke under load and particularly bad at 2200rpms or more. He says that after 2200rpms the truck falls on it's face.
I messed with the truck a bit tonight and it idles just fine but when you put a load to it you can feel it start to sputter a little bit.
I also inspected the valley and found that it looks like there is pretty fresh oil towards the back of the valley though it's definately not pouring out of anything.
At this point it's looking as if we're going to pull the turbo and give it a full blown inspection and replace the donut seal on the passenger's side as it is definately leaking.
Update to the situation..... Found that there was 22 gallons of 87 octane in about 16 gallons of diesel. New fuel has apparently solved the problem of premature ignition under load and higher rpms and the truck is no longer falling on it's face after 22,000 rpm.

Well my friends, when I find out what the story is I'll update and let you know but we were all thinking for quite some time there that the turbo was smoked and needed a rebuild.
