Blue Smoke

Hey Guys --- I have a '93 Ford Bronco and it died. it acted like the battery was dead. i got the battery recharged, changed the spark plugs, and changed the battery connections. After that it started but barely idles. When it does run there is blue smoke coming from under the firewall where the engine goes under the car. PLEASE HELP !! Im in college and dont have a ton of money so i would like to keep it out of the garage. Thanks a lot guys !!

Well, Blue smoke indicates oil burning, and since you said under the firewall I would say the smoke is caused by a cracked oil pan or broken rear main seal. the oil pan is more likely though because that would dump alot of oil which will cause you to have no oil pressure which causes bad idle!!! Hope this helps...

To ad to what blownbronco said...if that IS indeed the case, don't run her for long with severly decreased oil pressure! That will ensure a costly repair bill.

sweet, thanks a lot guys. I turned my heater on high also and i smell gas about half and half (exhaust and gasoline). Is there any more ideas? Also if i must take it to a garage there is one about 100 yards from where it is. Would it be safe to drive? How much does a typical oil pan change or seal replacement cost? Are there any other signs for me to look for to tell me if it is definatly one or the other? Thanks. You guys are the best.

Check your exhaust system for a blockage, maybe someone shoved a potato up your exhaust pipe.
