Not familiar with PPE.
What about a Edge Evolution?Looks to be for performance/towing and can be shifted on the fly.More in his price range I think.

PPE is supposed to be the cake with plug and play for the duramax. Edge isn't freindly with the allison.

I've got a friend with an '05 with the Edge w/juice and he was pulling a 20' aluminum livestock trailer; I had an "out of the box" flip chip on my truck and empty; I was only able to keep up with him climbing a hill. I was impressed and also got an ear full about it.
I don't know how it does with the Allisons, but as far as I know it still works well for him.
The gauges that come with the monitor are nice, and should be figured into the cost when comparing to other programmers/chips that don't have them.

Another vote for PPE .... Xcelerator Hot 2 maybe? Buddy has it on a LB7 and man that thing moves... CC SB 4wd launching in 2wd and ran a 8.86 1/8th mile.... only mods are the PPE and intake and straight pipe

"Chip" on a Duramax?

HA HA HA

Programmer or fueling module? We can work with that.

I have installed probably 18 Edge Juice modules (with and without the Attitude monitor) and my personal experience is that it's a terrific product for the Chevy crowd. Fords not so much.

I have installed/driven a PPE Programmer and Superchips Programmer and have to say that the PPE is by far the best thing for the Duramax (besides EFI Live from what I've heard).

Before you go and recommend something to your friend, is it the "Classic" VIN "D" LBZ Duramax or the ugly VIN "6" LMM? That will make a difference. DO NOT put a programmer on an LMM without having a DPF delete.....he will spend more time going slow in "Reduced Power" mode than he will going fast.

PPE is great option, but the new Edge Evolution Race, CS Race, or CTS Race are even better in my opinion. The power and shifting is excellent and you get a monitor with gauges and safety features.
