lol. we almost lost the program in the latest round of budget cuts.
That governor set it up so that the medical mission always took priority over anything else. Our go team is also unique in that they typically get flown to the scene from shock trauma.

thats pretty cool. the LifeStars can bring doctors to the scene, and can transport 2 patients at one if nesscary.

Our choppers will hold most of the go team as well as the patient. They can also load 2 patients if needed. They have been used to pluck people off highrises here in Baltimore. A few yrs ago we had a high rise catch fire and the used a medevac to help get people off of the roof and the upper floors. Our go team consists of a surgeon, a nurse or two as well as an Anesthesiologist.

what is the go team? like a Rapid Intervention Team for medical incidents? these choppers carry a pilot, airway specialist, and a flight nurse.

pretty much they are a team of doctors and nurses from the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center that will go out to the really bad incidents and do things like field amputations. They typically carry enough meds, blood, and surgical equipment to do anything that is needed. Fortunatly they are not called out too often.
Brian this is what comprises the standard go team here in MD.
The Go Team is comprised of several trauma surgeons, nurse anesthetists, and Shock Trauma support staff. This team can perform a wide variety of hospital based skills that are outside the protocols of the field based paramedic such as field amputations, field sedations (as in this case), and whole blood or other blood product transfusions.

wow, thats pretty cool. its a good thing they dont get called out much. we dont have anything like that here. we have Medic trucks that respond to incidents that are basically a rolling ER storeroom, and they can do some things (ike push certain drugs, etc) and then the LifeStar crews can do somethings that are more advanced. idk about field amputations though. I doubt that. unless a doctor does it.
The trauma system that is used in this country was pioneered here in Baltimore by the staff at Shock Trauma lead by R. Adams Cowley. Here is some info on the Shock Trauma center here in Baltimore. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R_Adams..._Trauma_Center

ohh. the closest trauma center from where I sit is 20 minutes to the north, and it used to be a level 2 center, now its a level 3, there is a LifeStar there, which comes in handy. next closest trauma center is 50 miles away, so if we get something bad, med-evac is a very good option. we have a hospital in the next town over, but its not a trauma center. so its either land the bird near the scene and have it fly to the nearest traums center, or ground transport to the nearest hospital and meet the bird there.
Brian Shock Trauma is a level one center, we have several level two centers just in Baltimore, we also have a dedicated burn center at the closest hospital to me, and a few level three centers in my area as well. We also have a dedicate pediatric hospital which handles the majority of the peds trauma cases. The peds hospital is run by Hopkins.
