What Is The Best Code Retriever

I have a 99 F250 LD 5.4L . I was wondering what is the best code retriever for the money? Do they make a code retriever/programmer
that's reasonable?

kids got me one at Sears that reads codes, and will clear them. Also can plug into house computer and has software for it. Not used that yet. Cost about $100.

You want to read DTCs and do reflashes? Expect to pay several thousand dollars for that kind of power. J2534 is the new standard for what is now known as Pass Through reflashing. Simply put it's a generic way for you to do a reflash. You could purchase the factory Ford tool, but that costs even more. You'll also need a laptop and a good scan tool that will serve to read your DTCs and talk to the J2534 device. Then you need to subscribe to the manufacturers download service. That's where you get the downloads to do the reflashes you want to do. This can range from a few hundred for a week or month subscription to thousands for a whole year. You can try iATN and NASTF for details on this stuff. It ain't cheap. Unless you plan to make a living doing reflashes it's basically out of the question dollar wise. EASE is currently having a big sale on a wireless unit that has bidirectional controls and J2534 capabilities, but remember you still have to pay for the downloads from Ford.

Snap-On dealer in Bastrop. The story was he ordered one for another guy here and didn't get it for 4 weeks. So he ordered another one, and 5 days later he had two of them. Those upgrades are kickin my *** though!!!
