Got the truck yesterday at 5pm. Chased the problem to the pick-up coil. replaced the distributor with a remanufactured unit. It was the best choice considering time and cost of changing the coil out as you have to have the stator pressed off to get to the pick-up. Then you install the new coil then have the stator pressed on. I was careful to observe the position of the rotor before taking the old distributor out and nailed the install. The truck fired right up on the first turn of the key. Total cost for the distributor, cap and rotor was $106.55. The satisfaction of hearing the truck fire up; Priceless. Now it's time for some buffing and cleaning. Pics tomorrow I hope.
Truck $525.00
Chilton book $26.50
Parts $106.55
Total spent $658.05
Do I feel bad about buying it at that price from the old man? NO!
He had accepted that price as a trade-in value.
Better me than the dealer.
i bought a subaru legacy awd that my niece paid $5000 for in 2001 for $400 in 2003.
that was the trade in she was going to get and i sorted out most of it's problems and drove it to los angeles and back and now use it for a second car.
i don't feel bad and she told me she does not either.
Now for the bad news. I have to deliver a cashiers check to the state by close of business Tuesday the 6th. I am buying the Katrina cottage my family has been living in as the replacement for the home we lost to Hurricane Katrina August 29th 2005. I was notified at 12:30 Thursday afternoon which gave me 3 working days to raise the money.
I had to sell the truck! I had to take $1550.00 for it. Yes I know that I made $892.00 profit. But hell I wanted to keep it. If I had more time I could have sold it for $2300.00 to $2500.00. The worst part is that my boss bought it and it will be around the shop for a while getting polished up.
I'm jealous. Have more than that in Old Rusty & it's nowhere as nice as that. Guy wanted $1500.00 for the truck when I bought it. Bought another tailgate, 2 more " rally " wheels & 2 new tires, had a new windshield put in before getting it inspected. Currently in the shop at Tech. School having all fluids flushed & filled, new thermostat, complete tune-up, replace seat ( forgot I got another slightly better seat ), repair driver's power door lock ( have a new actuator on order, supposed to be shipped to school ). List goes on & on. It's a '91 with ?145'xxx on it ( shows 45,xxx ). Know it's turned over at least once, title showed more than that & they don't go down. Maybe your boss would like to trade.
