I have a had the Gold remote start kit installed when I bought my 2001X.
It quit working the dealer here dosent have a clue how to fix it . Does anyone have the installation manual or troublshooting guide for it? It hasnt work for a year and had given up but I deside to keep the X and started fixing issues. My V code spring will be in on tuesday and I thought I might as well fix the remote start while I was working on it.

I have the silver on my '01. Ford sourced these kits from http://gemsen.com which used to have information regarding these on their web site. They no longer do. I'm not sure when Ford stopped using them, by my 2008 Mustang factory remote start is not this system. What exactly is not working with yours? There is a reset feature where you push the button on the module and re-sync the remotes. I have had to do this a few times when it wouldn't work.
When you try to use the remote start the doors lock and it make a click sound like its doing something then the theft light starts flashing on the dash.

Something is wrong with the remote start transponder that tricks PATS into letting the vehicle start w/o a key present.
Would a shop manual for the truck have troubleshooting / wiring diagrams for the remote start? kinda flying blind with out any installation instructions or wiring diagrams.
Just tried it again, and it is doing something different. You press the start key the headlights flash but the doors do not lock and the theft light flashes, also the alarm led flashes even when it is started by key. 2 flashes off 2 flashes off.
I have the Gold remote start and if Mine ever dies, I'll just run to on eof the big box stores and spend the $100 or so to get a good one with the two way remote...
Great remote start, but NOT knowing if it started or not is a pet peeve of mine

No, the shop manual would not have any info regarding the remote start. This is an accessory and is not covered.

Maybe it would be best for you to just disconnect it. Take it to a reputable shop that installs car electronics accessories (radios, alarms) and see if they can figure it out.
Took it by a couple of local Radio/alarm store today neither had ever seen it before. One disconnected it for me and then nothing would work no remote lock/unlock, would not start, so they reinstalled it so I could drive it home. back to where I started but the wallets 80 bucks lighter now. I did see the unit is black and had a ford emblem with Vehicle Security System below.
Again, while I use my Ford Gold Remote multiple times a day....
just wondering if fixing the old one is worth it...
thinking for that $80 and 20 or so more at a best buy you could get a new unit with a warranty
good luck....
it can be frustrating when others don't want to dive into someone elses mess up

When it wouldn't start was the "theft" light flashing quickly? What kind of key are you using. Is it a ford key with the transponder in it?

No theft light flashing, was using factory key. The alarm guy siad if this was a remote start and alarm unit, it must have a starter interupt circuit. He said he could elimnate it and go thru and try to trace out all the controller wiring, resplice what was need to get it back to factory wiring. he estimated around 3 hours at 40 an hour.
I took the controller out this morning and took it to a dealer part dept. They have a listing for the controller but it is vendor unit and had no idea of the lead time for it or any installation instruction for it.
I guess I will talk to ED at Y2K about it and see if he can get it and instructions for it.

$120 sounds pretty good to get it back to factory.
