hey, i have a 2002 f150 4x4 5.4L and i was wondering if anyone can tell me why it cant do a burnout? does it have some sort of traction control, and is there any way of getting rid of it? thanks

I used to have the same problem. They just don't have enough power.
Part of it is the low stall converter. I put a taller stall converter, and mine will light them up. But basically they dont make enough power at the low RPM.
i was suprised when i got my truck new it didnt do it either, comming from my 96 ranger with the 4.0L 2wd which would lite up on accident sometimes.....i guess its good this way since keep more tread on the tire than on the concrete
When I first got my truck it would barely squeak the tires. I added a Airaid Cold Air intake and Programmed it with a Hypertech I picked up. I melted the Goodyear Wranglers at my Brothers house attempting to pull loose a locust tree he cut that hung. I have since replaced the Wranglers with Michelin LTX's They are the stock 265 x 16's and I cannot Turn these as well, but I was able Thursday to leave 32 feet of both tires in the lot at work when I left mad. Sometimes it's all in how you apply the pedal.
I think Gumby's right...it's sll in how you use the pedal....The 5.4L has quite a bit of lowe end torque. I have just turned 100k with my 01 and I have the 3.55LS and I can still ight up the 265's no prob! Don't do it that much, as, tires cost a few bucks nowadays!!

very same problem!!! not that there is a need but there is always a want. especiallly coming from the couple of cobra's i have had. the 18 second 1/4 mile f150 doesnt cut it for speed. haha It does do its part in the line up however!!
what is the stock stall of the converter? and can some one recommend a good rpm and product to look into? also what programmers have given good results? mpg vs power mainly? thanks a ton, im looking to spend some money after this deployment!! haha
I just used the stock 4.6l torque converter. but honestly its not worth swaping out just so you can do burn outs. Programmers and other bolt ons are the best bet.

I definetely agree, i will not be pulling the tranny to swap a converter just for a burnout. But i am wondering if my converter, somehow, is going bad? in gear it idles under 500 and it feels as if it locks up almost instantly off idle. I am however going to be trying a tuner and going to see about a tranny flush. I just dont remember my truck being so doggish off the line when i bought it as it is now, only 117K miles and it definetely didnt idle this low. I've heard talk of tranny "flushes" being bad if its never had one and miles are around or over 100K?? any truth to that?
What other bolt ons have seen results? im thinking a 100shot haha!! jk im really interested in mpg as i have a fox chassis car for my fun time that believe it or not gets worse gas mileage.
