I have a spare running 390 in my dads barn. If I was to take the heads off and clean them and fix them up to put on my current engine would that be ok?
An old timer at work said fresh heads might be too much for an older engine like mine. That I really ought to rebuild my whole engine before throwing on fresh heads. Think there's any truth to that? I don't wanna hotrod my truck any, just stock specs.
If it's just the valve guides in your heads causing the problem and your bottom end is o.k., the head swap would be fine. Are you sure of the condition of the heads in the barn? You do have a lot of unanswered questions as to the condition of your bottom end also...
