I was at a junkyard today and found a 70' truck with fresh rebuild heads. I took the valve covers off and they dont even look like they ever had oil in them, like it was a project gone south. It was also strange that the drivers side had C6AE-R heads and otherside were D2TE-AA heads. Again both were fresh and I was considering getting them but didnt and now thinking I should have. What do you think of the different heads on this?? I was likeing that they were fresh to start, but concerned they didnt match. They go for 50 each there at the yard. I currently have a set of D4TE with Air for the smog, that has come out. Also now have a 390 that have a pair of C6TEG and C6TE-6090G. What heads would be best fit for the 390 that would be used for 4x4??? Any advise would be great. Thanks.
I'd pass on them as they are 50 a set on holiday weekends at PYP, and you cant be sure they were properly redone without really checking them out. However weigh the cost of a solid rebuilds vs after market AL heads and decide from there IMO. A good set of cores is an easy 550.00 rebuild at a cheap shop IMO. If all go is what you want/The big port heads are out there just keep looking. The yards tend to turn them up for me often enough.
