5.0 power increase

I have a 1993 F150 that I want to get some more power from. I have been reading some different post and I read some things about new heads an dtwo questions came to mind. First is my 5.0 is tired 123+K mile and I,m wondering if the new heads would blow the rings out? Two if I rebuild my 5.0 and by the stroker kit how much would this build cost and would it be worth it? Its been years since I played with House power stuff and I,m not sure how it would react with the EFI and the EOD transmission

If it's tired, don't just do heads, you'll be doing it again soon. Adding power items to a worn engine is a formula for trouble ahead.

Explorer GT 40 heads are the preferred head.

A stroker for a 302? Here's one near $1700:

You will find it cheaper to swap a 351w in there.

What is your smog inspection situation?

Conanski is the man on these engines. If you get lucky, he'll see your post.

Thanks
I live in rural Wisconsin so there is no smog checks however I do want to stay legal so if I ever need to it will pass an inspection. A complete rebuild is kind of what my thoughts where but I wanted to some other opinions and maybe some options that will work

You can get more HP from the 302 just not a lot more grunt(TQ) so get a 351 if that's what you want. Your truck has the SD EFI system and combined with the E4OD tranny you're limited on upgrades without replacing the computer and converting to mass air. But there are things that can be done to improve the 5.0 powerband without upsetting the stock computer. Swap the truck intake for a 5.0HO, add an explorer cam with 1.7 rockers, and install longtubes and a 2.5" single. All totaled that will produce about 350TQ and 250hp which is 75TQ/65HP improvement over stock.. not bad for junkyard parts.

If I go with the 351 how will it effect the computer and tranmission? Will it require the replacement of the computer? The reson I ask is that for the cost of a good used truck I figure I can do quite a bit without spending what it would cost to replace mine

The E4OD tranny is good but they can all benefit from a shift kit so add one regardless what you do to the motor..it'll extend it's life considerably.

You will need a 5.8/E4OD computer if you install a 5.8, the 5.0 version will run the motor a little lean and that's not good.

The 5.0 ECU will control the 5.8 in closed loop, however open loop will run a little lean. In most cases, an adjustable fuel pressure regulator will work if there is no aftermarket tuning available, as well as adjusting the base timing to make up for the load table differences.
As for the transmission, the weakest link in an E4OD is the converter; they're a single disk lock-up type and can take out the rest of the transmission if one should fail. A shift kit or valve body upgrade will firm up the shifts nicely but more of the heat will come from the converter locking and unlocking.
There are several options but one of the first things I would recommend, with or without a shift kit, is a large plate type transmission cooler; one from Powerstroke diesel would make a fine upgrade.
