5.0 mustang / Lincoln town car 5.0 the same?
Hey my name is scott I have been donated a running 1991 town car with the 5.0 engine. I know it's not the HO but looks just like my 91 mustang motor I used to have . My questions are does anyone know if this is just a detuned 5.0 ? If so what's the difference? Heads the same? Do mustang 5.0 parts interchange? Are the computers similar? Wiring harness? Cam? Can the computer be tuned or switched with a mustang computer? I ask cause I'm looking to pull it and put it in my 1956 ford f100. I got it for free and thought it would make a good donor motor. I'm was planning on pulling the wiring harness and computer to eventually build a efi 5.0 twin turbo motor running low boost 8psi. If this motor is not basically the same as the mustang 5.0 I didn't want to waste my time or money building it. Any info you might have or suggestions would be appreciated!! Thanks

The towncar motor made all of 150hp so the only parts it shares with the Mustang were the block, crank and con rods.. everything else is different. The lopo 5.0 got E6 heads.. one of the worst castings every produced, a tiny flat tappet cam, a restrictive intake, cast pistons, and 14lb injectors. Strip it bare and replace all those parts and you would have something but you would be much further ahead with a 5.0 from an Explorer, that motor has much better heads and intake than the HO and a stock roller cam, the only thing it doesn't have that you would need is forged pistons but that's a minor cost compared to replacing the whole topend of the motor.
