I read many posts about code scanners that dont work, and some that work well, I used a friend of mined OBDII scanner and it didnt work on my trucks, I took it to a shop and he was able to get codes from my 96 PSD but said he also got an error message followed by stating that it has a super ship in it so he couldnt get all of the codes. Can some of you fine gentlemen give me the names of some good scanners. I am new to the diesel world but now the owner of 2 96 PSD's.
If you have a compatible laptop the AE product is the way to go. I ended up getting a laptop just for AE and other stuff that has no Apple support. Didn't want to run two operating systems on the Macbook.
If it has programming from Supechips, you WON'T be able to change to something else unless the ford dealer "reflashes'" it. this will set it back to the lastest stock configuration. You won't even be able to get another Superchips programmer to change it, as when you use one of those over-the-counter programmer it locks your VIN into it,therefore only allowing that programmer to that truck. If you have the dealer reflash it then you can start from scratch.
One thing to remember if I recall if you want a chip that actually plugs into the back of the computer it does override the kind that just plug into the underdash connecter. Hope this helps for any future plans. Welcome to the diesel world.
