Have a 97psd that am able to use my super chips scanner on and works well, also have a 96 psd that did have a blown under dash fuse ,i think #16,and even after that still have no power to scanner.Understandiblly that the circuit might be interrupted although wondering what color wire, seems that there might be pin test for this,or could be a bad pcm perhaps?Motor runs and starts just great and has 240k on it.Always thankful for good advice on here,ROnjon
Absolutly not an expert, but from the what I have read around here, 97 is OBDII (kind of), and 96 is OBDI. So the scanner might not work on the 96. I believe 97 was the start of OBDII on all vehicles, but the higher GVW vehicles did not follow the exact same rules at the time. I am sure an expert on here will clear up anything if I misspoke.
Was just reading about this and think i actually threw away an old obd 1 awhile ago.Must be the same concept from information reviewed altho could use some insight about the auto parts store scanners capabilities
the auto parts store scanners should be able to read the obd1in your '96. you could probably borrow one from oreilly's or autozone to try it out.the auto parts store scanners will not work on the '97.
You don't have to change the PCM you can bring it to the dealer and have them Flash the latest update (I think it's TDE1) for the 97 and then your ODBII will work
Thatz great news, somehow was under the impression that these years of trucks would not be serviceable to the stealership. With thie reflash in consideration is this s procedure exclusive to Ford or International or other diesel shops? Also the price for this would be expected to pay?
I know that Dp tuner can do it. Not sure who else. Depends if you can afford to have your rig down for a few days or not. I don't think since yours is a 97 that would need to be done anyway. Check the in cab fuse for the power point and cigar lighter. That powers the OBDII port.
Actually have plenty of time for this thing to sit as i'm swapping out cabs from a wrecked truck and while the old smashed cab is off going to do a ebpv delete/down pipe rear oil rail o rings upgrade as the entire exhaust is already been upgraded. The engine ran fine with 240k and did have a blown # 16 under dash fuse, although when repplaced it still did not power up the scanner on the 96 while the 97 scan port does function as it should. The ebpv removal seems to be a worthwhile performance enhancement even tho it is an automatic trans
