it might help to know what we're working on here, but I have no problem getting the ***** off from the driver seat with the flathead screwdriver on my swiss army knife.

87 F250, they don't just pull off like the 1970's fords.
Yeah I don't get that, they put a release button on the light switch that lets the whole shaft slide out, but not on the wipers. But it's easiest just to find the little notch in the switch *****, they will have little lock tabs in them that let the **** release when pushed the right way with a small flathead screwdriver.
That's because you aren't thinking very hard?
Think about how the two ***** are used differently.

Okay you tell me??? all I can think off is that the two switches are completly different switches and that the wiper switch's design does not allow it to have a shaft release???

Ok, cool. :)
The light switch needs to be strong when you pull out on it, right? :)
So, they spent extra money on that switch to keep from having trouble.
The wiper switch isn't pulled except by accident, so all it really needs to
do is be strong enough for twisting and so they could make it cheaper.
There, now how's that sound to you? :)
Pretty obvious now huh? :)

I have an 87 too. There is a small notch on the back of each ****. Insert a small flathead screwdriver or small allen wrench, as someone else suggested, in the notch and pull towards the face of the ****, then pull the **** off the shaft. That will let you get the trim piece off and get to the mounting screws for the switches. Or did I misunderstand what you're trying to do?
um, i have a 91, and my light switch completely died at 2 in the morning on I-80 while i was pullin a 40ft trailer. i got to a truck stop, bought three toggle switches, and pulled the ***** off to get the dash panel off. all i did was pull on em. and then i rewired my lights to three toggles switches: one for the dome light, one for the dash and parking lights, and one for the headlights. to my knowledge, im the first to remove these ***** cause it took some force, but all i did was pull. hehe.

Exactly, I just want to get the trim off, to remove the switch. The wiper motor is probably what is bad, and not the switch anyway, but I still want to get those dang ***** off!
