ignition key cylinder problems
I have a 1991 f-150 302 4x4 extended cab. I have replaced the ignition key cylinder and switch 3 times in the last year and a half. inserting the key and turning to start works fine for several months and then starts getting more difficult. The turning of the key isn't smooth and the key cylinder doesn't spring back to on after it starts. i have to turn it back or the starter keeps going. And as the problem progresses, when they key is in the start position it doesn't start unless i really put some pressure forward ( this kills my thumb ). Eventually the only way to start my truck is to jump it at the soelenoid (Pain in rear and embarrassing ). I don't have a lot of weight on my key chain, 5 keys. Any suggesstions would be greatly appreciated.

In years past I have had the same problem on my tilt column,what fix my problem requires taking off the steering wheel and taking apart the top portion of the coloum,thus cleaning up the old sticky grease on the actuator and rod that goes to the switch at the lower part of the column

What is the best way to clean up the grease and i am assuming some new grease is going to be needed. what kind do i use and how much? thanks for the suggestion!

I just used some rags and carb cleaner to clean it up,but was careful to not make a big mess,used a air hose to dry it out, and then I just used a small amount of wheel bearing grease,worked great all the way up to junking the truck,which was like 6/7years later
