7-pin trailer connector/ brake controller q/a

I have a dumb question... my truck came with the factory 7pin trailer connector and I wanted to know if the truck internally modulated trailer brake control or if it was like the 87-97 trucks where the wiring was ran in the truck and the connectors were just hanging under the dash for quick controller installation??? I should know this by now but nobody or the manual can satisfy my curiosity

Same here, had the wire harness in the glove box, just needed to plug the one end in, and splice it to my controller!

FYI....
I found mine at a boneyard...
I was fortunate enough to find a SD that had a Prod. brake controller and the pigtail still attached under the dash. Swipe both with the bracket for about 9bux. It was cheap b/c it was considered "misc. electronics"- and he didn't bother with charging for the pigtail.

I also found one last week in our body style F150 that was still bagged w/the rest of the components (relays and such) in the glove box...

Just thought I'd pass along another means of acquiring the pigtail.

I think mine still has a factory p/n on it. If you need a p/n I can see about taking note of it when I go digging under my dash later today.

When I bought my Prodigy controller I also bought the harness for the truck and controller at the same time that made it a true plug and play installation. The whole install took 15 minutes and no wires needed spliced. The harness cost $12. I just plugged the harness adapter to the facory wiring harness plug and the other end to the controller.

Here it mentions a model specific adapter harness that can go from a model/brand specific Controller to the connector under the dash (without using the tow/brake controller pigtail harness).(The first 30secs mention this specific harness) http://www.etrailer.com/tv-brake_con...Ford_F150.aspx

...but of course the host of the video is utilizing the pigtail that came with the truck w/tow package.

I do have the harness and controller out of my truck sitting here.... But it has a small slew of p/ns on the label.

On edit: what year is this on?
This link is for a Prod. with the F150 specific harness/adapter plug.http://www.etrailer.com/p-90185-3035...eid=2005106261

Just go to your local dealership and test drive a couple F150s till you find one with a new harness in the glove box and swipe it.

I was given a loaner at one point last year that still had one in the glove box so i swiped it for my friend. I know im a real jerk, but that dealership screwed me over way more than the cost of a pigtail.

Wow! Suppose his dealership doesn't screw folks over, suppose instead that they treat their customers well ...
... is it still OK to steal it?

The salesmen wouldnt know squat about whats in the glove box or even what the harness is for, let alone know if the truck needs one or not. Who cares, somethings in life are free, in this case its trailer brake control harnesses! j/k

i went to tractor supply and they had a brake-force controller for $65 and an actual direct plug in to both ends for $15, sounds like the easiest way to go
