Ford makes a cooler kit that has the cooler without the housing.
Has anyone used this kit? Is it complete or do you need other parts to complete it? What's included?
How long does it take to install a oil cooler?
Which EGR delete works and cheap?
any advantages of one cooler over the others.
Lets leave the $400 -600 delete pipe kits out as there many cheaper
options
Any additional advice?
Anything else I need or should do while I'm in there?
Please list all gasket, screen, sealants, coolants, etc needed to make this job go smoothly start to finish without unplanned stops.
I need to get this truck up and running as cheaply as possible without
creating work down the road with a crappy fixes.

If this information is already listed somewhere please point me to it.
Thanks
Haven't used the cooler repair kit, so can't help ya there, but I do know it takes a few hours to do the install. Probably plan a good day. There is a thread titled my 68.17 EGR delete that you may want to search for. I believe it was on the list in the last month or so. You won't need intake gaskets as those are reusable. You'll need 3.5 gallons of Ford Gold or Zerex G05 coolant (same thing), and several gallons of distilled water to flush the system with. If you had an oil cooler failure then I'd get a BIG jug of Cascade and not worry about the distilled water until you get ready for a final flush and fill. The cheapest way to delete your EGR cooler is to get a stainless steel freeze plug for the exhaust side and a u-joint cap for the intake side that will fit in the EGR cooler TIGHT. Make a blind gasket and permatex the crap out of it on both sides and reinstall the EGR cooler. NO coolant can get out into the exhaust this way OR get into the engine IF the cooler fails.
I did my oil cooler about a month ago. Igot the kit on ebay for 225.00 shipped. all gaskets where in the kit for the oil cooler, no intake ga. would recommend getting the resevoir screen and replace while you are inthere Int. # 1838526C1. pretty easy to do just apain to work in the engine compartment. I don't know how techs can work on these things everyday.
The oil cooler kit works fine, as stated above it has all the gaskets needed but you do need the intake set and the screen under the oil pump. Make sure you clean area real well around oil cooler before you remove it. Remove the old oil in the cavity under the oil cooler and once the screen is replaced make sure you add a quart of fresh oil before installing the oil cooler. Places a few rags behind the oil cooler where the turbo pedastel would be before you pull the oil cooler to catch the oil as it runs out.
Cheapest egr cooler delete you can do is find the right size freeze plugs to jam into both sides of the cooler and have someone weld them in place and then reuse it. No exhaust flow and if somehow it leaks coolant its got no where to go and looks stock.
Just curious on why you are replacing it, overheating? Oil mixed in coolant? Puking out the cap?
Also change the oil and filter and know it will take awhile to crank before it starts.
i bought the oil cooler kit off of ebay for 200 bucks, new in the box, came with all the gaskets and seals. you really dont need the whole kit, the core is the only thing that goes bad.
OK guys help me understand why you'd have to fool with this.
What kind of oil temps are you seeing and under what circumstances?
The Check engine light came on , Truck is hot.
I have oily coolant puking from the cap,
Releasing the pressure produced what looks like a very thick pudding .
My research says oil cooler anybody think its something else.
Studs done less than 10K mile ago.
Just made two trips over 400 mile each in the last two weeks and then she dies in the yard. When my turbo broke the shaft ,she coasted home without any help.
