Unhappy Got a ticket

On my way up on the 3rd to Indiana to be with my girl for the Blueberry festival I got pulled over by State Patrol for speeding. I was passing a vehicle on 31 and got tagged doing 68 in a 60. Seeing as it was my first ever offence I was kind of ticked it wasn't a warning, but anyways. It's a 15$ ticket plus court fees which makes it 114$. Indiana also has a mandatory 2 point violation for 1-15mph over. Anything I can do to get the points removed? Is it worth it? My court date is Oct. 29 but I'm really not wanting to travel up there to fight the ticket as I was in the wrong after all. I haven't called the number yet on my ticket, it's supposed to be the burea to pay to, but I'm not sure if they'll offer me any options to fight it or not.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I do live in GA., so going to IN. for the ticket is a bit out of the question.

Indiana State Trooper's usally dont cut anyone any slack. I am suprised they didnt offer you Pre-Trial diverison where you pay another fee but the infraction does not count against you
BTW I got tagged for 5 over and there were others going faster around me

good luck

I called in today, they still don't have the ticket available. She did say however given the details that I am eligible for the deferral program. This will keep me from paying the ticket and getting the points. However I have to pay an approximate 250$ deferral charge. Ouch .

If the ticket is only $114 and the deferral is $250, pay the ticket. Insurance usually doesn't care unless you have 6-9 points on your license. You could take a defensive driving course at your DMV and have the points removed usually, you would have to check with your state though.

I passed the hypothetical to Geico and because I'm 20 with a twin brother driving a big *** Expedition, my premiums would go up by about 150$. 150$ 2x a year for the next 2-3 years. As for traffic school, 30$ for the class and 25$ administrative charge then taxes on top. It would make the overall ticket cost about 180$ or so. It's still an option, I have to talk to the GA DMV to find out what all it entails. I can only do online, I have to work too much and I'm doing 18 hours of classes this semester so the homework is really swamping me.

Call the number on your ticket (Maybe Bremen?) and see if they can change it to a non-point violation, but tell them you have no problem with paying the fine and court costs. My friend has done this a couple of times and it works! When he called Bremen, the judge actually answered the phone himself.

Because you were from GA, is why you got the ticket. He probably wouldn't have pulled you over if you had IN plates.

If you do the deferral, you can't get a ticket anywhere for a year or the points will come back from the first ticket.

30 years of driving and I've always found the IN state troopers cut more slack.

Indiana State Police is the only law enforcement agency that I have ran into that writes tickets to law enforcement officers. Others don't pull them over or they cut them breaks and let them go. ISP writes them.

To me, that proves they are professional. Whenever there is a problem with Elkhart PD (which happens all the time), they call in ISP to do the investigation.

Case in point today. I got pulled over today by ISP on the way home. I don't believe I was actually going 14 over but I didn't argue. He told me most guys write them for 11 over but he only writes them for 15 over. He didn't even give me a written warning.

I was really surprised he actually got me on radar as my Passport Escort did not pick up anything. So I'm guessing the ISP is now using POP or Laser as I have those turned off in the detector. Guess I'll have to find out which one they now have and turn that on. Unfortunately those are the 2 that false trigger often
