I got myself a speeding ticket, I guess I shouldn't say where, but out of state about 600 miles from home. When the officer gave it to me he said it was a "citation" and I asked him, "is that like a warning or a ticket I need to pay?" All he said was "yes, it's a citation." Well I figured I could just call them up when I got home from my trip and send a check in the mail. I don't need to argue it or anything, I WAS speeding. First of all there isn't one phone number for anybody anywhere on the ticket. I ended up calling like 7 people at that city (including a recreation center, who was more helpful than anybody) before I found someone willing to help me. Long story short they can't tell me if it's a ticket or a warning. They can't even find it in the system. I joking said "so I must be free to go then? and she very seriously said "no you're still responsible for the ticket." The officer didn't check any of the box's on the ticket indicating what it was. so finally the lady I'm talking to gives up, she just told me that the officer must not have filed it yet and to call back in a week. well, and I told her, I got the ticket on the 12th, yesterday when I called was the 29th, you think he still hasn't filed it? It says I have 30 days to take care of it, and it's already been 18. Now what am i supposed to do?

Which kind of Officer was it a state, county, or local. This will give you the biggest clue as where to call. You were lucky I once received a ticket in Missouri by a state trooper while traveling and they carries me straight to jail untill I paid. If it was a state trooper or a county sheriff call the county court house there and try the Probate Judge, also if it was a statetrooper you can google and find the closeest trooper post ot where you got the ticket and they should be able to help. If you still have no luck the best thing to do is contact your attorney and show him the ticket. Yes Lawyers can be expensive, but they're cheaper than being stopped some time in the furture on another speeding and them carring you to jail on an outstanding warrent. I can here it now from the Judge ignorance is no excuss. Out of town tickets can come back to haunt you badly. Yep scan it and let us see front and back.
DO NOT waste any time finding a answer. Even if you have a pay a lawyer do it. In todays world even a ticket in another state can cause a warrant for your arrest if not paid.

Amen... I don't believe they would arrest you however, they will send a warrant to your state to revoke your drivers license until you appear in court or pay all of the associated fines which by that point will be substaintial.
I know this well thanks to the Great State of Georgia and a ticket that I forgot about...
Unless you have a whole lot of time on your hands, just let a lawyer handle it. They are gonna know who to call to find out what you need to do. It sounds to me like you are off the hook though, if there isnt anything written on the ticket, its hard for them to enforce it.
I would hire a lawyer and let him take care of it and maybe get it thrown out due to the lack of information. To me, a few hundred up front for a lawyer to keep points off my record and my insurance collecting it over the next 3 years would be worth it.
Why not look up what county you were in when you got the ticket, get an address for either the State Police or District Attorney in that jurisdiction and send them a registered letter explaining what you just told us? That is probably all an attorney will do for you except he will charge you a few hundred plus the cost of the certified letter.
If they don't respond to your letter, you at least have a paper trail that you were proactive in trying to get this resolved. Just don't ignore it.

If it was me I would get it taken care of as soon as possible. This is just a thought but if you called the county police when the ticket was a state ticket that may be why it wasn't on record.
But if the officer didn't write or check anything specific on the ticket then you may be able to get off a technicallity. I have known people who got off because of really simple mistakes like an 'a' looking like an 'o'.
Look for a source on it. If it was a county officer - call the county. City - call the city. Etc...
If nothing is checked, scan it and save a copy while the writing on it is still fresh. Ink fades over time, and you don't want to hear that something that was NOT checked suddenly IS later on.
Is there not a dollar amount (fine plus cost-of-court) on the citation? (in case you are wondering...a citation is the same thing as a ticket)........If so, is there not an address listed to which you can mail the "citation"?........If so, just mail the fine (most demand a certified check or a money order) to that address.
Most states have a reciprocal agreement. You may not have to worry about a warrant, but THEIR DMV will contact YOUR DMV and will get your license revoked in YOUR state.........
A warning ticket will say "Warning" on the paper.......
