73 F100/350 6&8 cyl. dash wiring harness w/ lights D3TZ-14401-R
73 F100/350 w/o diagnostic system s/n below R20,001 w/ gauges D3TZ-14401-B
73 F100/350 w/o diagnostic system s/n above R20,001 w/ gauges D3TZ-14401-S
Quick question, Does anyone know what "diagnostic system" is? I've seen this in other places in the catalog but have never been able to figure out what it means. This is 1973 there aren't computers or electronics. I'm just wondering what they are talking about.

There are no actual Ford part numbers on any parts after 1956. Any number you find will be either a casting or an ID number.
ID number: D3TB-14401-BL = Ford part number: D3TZ14401S .. Main Wiring Harness / Obsolete
Fits: 1973 F100/350 with Oil/Amp Gauges, without diagnosis system.
My 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog (final edition 10/88 on microfiche), does not show a before/from a certain serial number for this harness.
The problemo with the "aftermarket" CD version of this catalog is...it was scanned from an early edition and has errors and omissions.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
F10 = F100 2WD // Y = 360 2V // E = Mahway NJ Assembly Plant // Q45554 = 1973.

ND is quicker than I am, I was crossing the assy. # over to the p/n and he beat me to it.
According to your VIN you need the wiring harness ending with "B". Your s/n is Q45554 that's lower than the R20001 break. This harness is for s/n's above the break.
Whether this one would work or not I don't know. Ford doesn't specify what the differences are between the harness'.

The reason my parts catalog shows only one is because D3TZ14401B was replaced by D3TZ14401S
The problem with old Ford parts catalogs is...the numbers are also old.
And...since Ford updates 10's or 1000's of part numbers every year you need the FoMoCo O-S-I Catalogs to see if part numbers have been updated....or not.
O-S-I = Obsolete-Supercede-Interchange. The above info is from the 1/1990 O-S-I catalog, which is a combined version (on microfiche) of all the previous O-S-I catalogs from 1/1975.
This updating of part numbers is the MAJOR reason you should never go by the part numbers prefix to ID what the part supposedly fits.
Using that CD version of the catalog...you may be searching all over for a certain part number, it may have been replaced...which means you are looking for the wrong part number.
Then there's this boondoggle: In the late 1980's, Ford changed the package quantity of 1000's of parts.
When they did that, they changed the part number suffixes, rendering ALL the old part numbers obsolete.
NONE of these updated part numbers are in the CD version. Some are not in the last edition of 10/88.
Here are three examples out of 1000's:
DOTZ7B097A = DOTZ7B097B .. 1965/77 NSS Selector Lever // COAZ9202A = COAZ9202B .. 1957/79 Fuel Sending Unit Float // B8T7220A = B8T7220D .. NP435 Shift Lever Retainer Cap.
