My 78 F150 needs a new carb, I have already done the rebuild but it is just to wore out, which route would you guys suggest??
New stock carb?
new intake and carb?
I have been looking at the edlebrock package with 2171 performer manifold and 600 cfm edelbrock carb.
The truck has a 351m, and is a daily driver, some hauling and towing but more of my daily toy.
Edelbrocks are cheap, easy and hold a tune, i like them, but my engine is basically stock other than headers, intake and cam, ask 12 guys for opinions on carbs and you'll get 13 different opinions, holley has dealt with the issues of old, i.e. blown power valves, leaks, but personally i just prefer the Eddy's for a daily driver/street truck.
Yea I know everyone has thier own opinions and likes and dislikes, I haven't messed around with carbs and such since I had my mustangs and camaros in high school, I have been a diesel mechanic for years so this gas stuff is kinda new to me,
Before I spent that much money on a 2BBL holley, I might consider the superior Demon for the street. Many circle track racers are limited to the 4412 but you have none of these limitations and can find better performance from a 500 CFM Demon 2BBL than you would in the same Holley.

What was it about this carb that helped you decide? Just curious. I run nothing but Demons and love each and every one of them. They have several advantages over other carbs in my experience but I was wondering what the contributing factors for you were.
There you have it. That little 500 flows well, I mean very well. Demons are wet flowed VS others that dry flow. When compared side by side with equal flow types, the DEmon outflows the competition with equal venturi size. Much of this has to do with the design of the venturi as well as the booster. The Demon does not have to have any casting flash removed like the Holley, and the Eddy, well these cant even be worked without breaking something.
Since the engine series that you are using has a tendancy to vapor lock, the added volume of fuel in the Demon bowl will help prevent this. The Eddy has a rather small bowl. Your engnine may never demand so much fuel that it will run it out, but the larger bolw is less likely to boil when under hood temps get high.
With high flow numbers and small venturis, along with the increased booster signal, you will expect better throttle response as well as driveability,,,,,,oh yeah, better power. Thats a plus.
I think you are making a good choice. Perhaps a 4bbl might be a consideration of you plan of upgrading the engine in the future, but that is a bridge that you will have to cross, and a decision that you can only make. As far as staying with a 2BBL, and staying conservative, I think you are headed in the right direction.
Good job.......
I have the performer 400 intake and 600cfm Edeljunk. Big difference all across the board (for the better). Stuck a street avenger 670 on it and it seemed like better performance but i had to pull it back off before i could check mileage. As far as demon carbs go. I love em. But last time i checked prices there was a notable difference in price between them and my Holleys.
