Does anyone know the axels from a 68 f 250? Looks like a knuckle on the end, is it called a closed knuckle axle? Where can I find one? Should I get a dana 35 0r 44 for the front? My front axel is shot and I need help finding one at a reasonable price.
Closed knuckle front axles you cannot see the u-joints where the front wheel pivots. The older toyota 4x4s run a closed knuckle as well as the older ****** era vehicles. Otherwise it looks like most 4x4 chevys and dodges where you can see the axle stub shaft and u-joint turn as the truck rolls.
That should be a Dana 44 closed knuckle front axle. What part of it is shot? Is it the whole thing or just parts of it? The last truck I bought with a "shot front end" I got for $200.00 (1971 F-250 4x4). All that was wrong with it was the locking hubs were dirty. I've since scrapped the truck but I still have the complete front and rear axles if You need some parts. I would imagine shipping a whole axle from where I'm at would cost more than You would spend by buying something local.
This is a good time to move away from the less desirable low pinion closed knuckle axle with drum brakes and upgrade to a later model disc brake front end.
