D 44 closed knuckle question
I noticed the fluid quantity specification for the front axle has two amounts listed, one with knuckle and a lesser amount without knuckle.
Also, each knuckle has its own filler plug.
When I first got my truck I was going over all the fluid levels and found both knuckles to be wanting oil but the differential level was okay.
My knuckle seals are damp but not dripping so I consider them usable.
The rear is a dana 60 full floating axle, and as I discovered when replacing a leaking seal, differential oil makes its way out to lubricate the wheel bearings.
Thanks for your input.

What I am asking is or does the the closed knuckle D 44 have seals in the axle tubes and does the differential openly communicated its gear oil with the knuckles?
Thanks again
Ulfie
If he seals are bad, the differential oil will run to the knuckles, which will leak out through the knuckle seals.
Keep an eye on the differential oil level. If it won't hold, you will need to pull the axle shafts and carrier and install new seals. If your knuckles leak, you can get new "seals" for them, but they will still seep most likely. I just run corn head grease in my knuckles because I can't seem to make them hold 80w-90 (or 85-140).
