thanks again guys. i checked out the shears on harbor freight, $50.00 ain't out of my budjet. and looks like an excuse to check out menards also. i never thought of a spot weld cutter so take a look around for one also. pbly make things alot easier.
i'll second the tool shop brand cut off wheels from menards. if you have a lot to cut, buy as many of them as you can. every few months they have them on sale for 50 cents ea.
I also use a tool shop brand 4.5" grinder. yes, i've had two burn up on me (cutting .25" mild steel is a bit much for them) but they have a 2 year warranty, so all i was out was trip to the store.
i will say the last one i got seemed to be built cheaper than the previous ones. we'll see how it lasts.
