Bed Floor replacement

My 76 bed floor is rotton at the front and the end by the tailgate. I found several bed floors at upull it but they will not allow torches or cutting tool's in the yard.grrrr. I may have to buy a whole bed. What is the best way to replace sections of the floor? By that I mean, where does one make a cut? through the bottom supporting members, etc. Is there a seam or something you should start at, etc. Do I use a air powered cutting wheel for removing or something else? How do you match the bottom to the sides? Please spoon feed me this info. I appeciate it

the best thing to do is cut out the whole floor right at the bed sides. and when you cut the floor out of your truck leave a 3 inch gap from the sides so they overlap when you put the new floor in. then its just how you wanna attach it. weld it or rivet it. if you put a bed liner in there you will never even know

What about the bracings on the bottom of the floor? Cut everything and bolt it to my frame and weld it? Good new's is, I do have a bedliner to hide everything.)

i have read on this forum that the bed floor is interchangable from 1973 through 1996. i personally don't know anyone that has used a bed floor from another body style though.

COOL! How about the corners, like where the tail gate uprights are? What would you do? There are several seams around the bed, but they just confused me As hotroddually stated, I'm looking at early 90's PU, the floors appear the same as 73-79. The outsides of the bed's are wrecked at this junkyard, but the floors are great.

just leave that 3 inch gap the whole way around unless its rotten to. then take a welder and tack it to the exhisting floor. cover it up with the bed liner

If you buy from LMC, you better buy double. I hear their metal is thin.

Yes, and no. I have pieces that are rusted. They will be cut out. And I have used LMC type tiawan metel before. NEVER again. For the price they charge, shipping, and labor involved, use good old NOS from a junkyard if you can find it, if nothing else, just for the heavier\thicker metal. One can tell a replacement bed side, door, hood, tailgate or fender made from this 'TIN". Just touch it or close it and listen.

I'd rather cut replacement OEM pieces from the junkyard than that tiawan crap. I was looking at a 78 F250 4x4 CHERRY TRUCK, as advertised. (the seller called it a high boy) Great rebuilt 400, worn drivetrain, and LMC doors, front fenders, tailgate, and one bedside. Installed by a pro! For 10K, you can have it.

I've used them before, and was embarrassed everytime my door's were closed or tailgate was shut.

I will use the bed from a newer truck that is solid. My question was how to cut out the old and replace it with the newer old, heavy metal that I will treat with rust bullit or por15.

Search this forum for the absolute latest year. I can confirm this though, I saw the early to late 80's bed floors this week, they were the exact same as my 76 floor except for the narrow floor mounting holes in my highboy bed. They were solid. I have a homemade square punch made out of a chisel and can make the new holes in no time

How much is the time and material worth? I ask because I have been working with a couple of fellas back there and have found that shipping is not all that bad. Building the skid and escuring a complete bed is the toughest part. Shipping becomes the most expensive and unloading it at its final destination can add up, but is still less expensive than trying to create a new bed from parts.
Out here in sunny So Ca, we have straight beds, in nice shape and no rust.
I see complete beds seeling for quite a bot of meny when you can find them and wonder why someone would not consider shipping one from out here?
