anybody change the 4 speed with manual clutch in an 80 with a 5 speed with hydrualic clutch? do you have to change the pedals to get it to work with the hydraulic system? i Have a 88 donor bronco with the 5 speed and wanting to put it in the 80 with a 4 speed. what would all need to be done?
Definitely a reason not to keep it stock, if you have the money.
The mechanical clutch offered two 4 speeds. One was Granny, 1, 2, 3. The other was a 1, 2, 3, OD. The OD versions were aluminum and generally not very strong. The granny ones were strong, but offered no overdrive.
The 5 speed comes with the option of the ZF5, which is a stout transmission with a granny, 1, 2, 3, OD. Best of everything.
Gotta convert to a hydraulic clutch though. If you have the donor, switch everything over from the donor truck. Pedals, hydraulics, transmission, etc.
Depends on your view I suppose. I've put a lot of work into mine, and I'd much rather put a transmission in it a I like, than just get another because of the transmission.
