overdrive caution light flashing

Hi - I have a '94 F#% (haha freudian slip) F350 7.3 diesel with auto transmission and electric overdrive. I have put about 500 miles on it since purchasing it a few months ago with no tranny problems. Tonight after a short trip and being parked for 10 hours or so, I get in and the yellow overdrive light in the shift handle is flashing and reading "off". The truck would not shift out of 2nd gear after being driven for a few minutes but eventually did shift into 3rd but it did not go into O/D. Would anyone have a way to trouble shoot this or reset the thing? Much appreciate any help..I'm thinking maybe an electrical connection is bad someplace, I am not sure where to start looking

Pull your fault codes. It only takes a paperclip and a working CEL.

It could be a wiring problem between the PCM and the transmission. Check the wiring harness at the transmission for loose/corroded connections.

You can disconnect the battery, that will reset the computer. Does the torque converter lock up in overdrive?

We cleared the code off, I havent had a chance to test drive to see if it will stay in OD or not, but will check for corrosion etc and see if the fault stays cleared. Thanks

PCM is Powertrain Control Module. It's located behind the parking brake pedal.

I cleaned up the connections from the pcm and seems ok so far. Drove about 100 miles and no problems. Maybe just a glitch am hoping

I can't believe the reams of electical in a '94 truck. For some reason I thought diesels were less reliant on miles of wiring.

Same problem

I'm having the same problem, only it's on occasion and not all of the time. Where exactly is this PCM located? Is it on the inside of the cab under the parking break or the underneath outside of the cab? What does it look like?
Is there anything in particular to "clean it up"

Thanks

The 2005 Expedition is not at all like the '94 F series that this thread is about. I recommend starting your own thread on your problem.

There is a module on the drivers side engine side of the firewall - if you disconnect one end you should be able to spray it with electrical contact cleaner. Do the same where the bundle enters the top of the xmission, same side of vehicle.
