Emergency flasher does not work

Emergency flasher does not work
99 F150 4.6 single cab.
The emergency flasher system is not working properly. When the switch is pressed it may/ may not flash once then stop cold.
Trun signals work just file.
I can hear/feel a relay under the dash activate for both flashers and turn signals but was wondering if a seperate relay unit is used for the different functions. Haynes manual electrical diagram is no help as it does not show the flasher relay(s).
Or is this just a bad multi=function switch problem.
Any guesses?
