OK heres the problem i just got my 79 F150 back from paint and in finising up putting the wiring harnesses back in. When i turn my emergency flashers on they dont blink they just stay lit. When i turn on my right turn signal all of the emergency flashers light up and work. When i turn on my left turn signal nothing happens. Also when my lights are on i get no flashers or turn signals. So far i have replaced the turn signal switch, both flashers, and bulbs. I cannot find the problem to fix this mess.
With nothing working with the lights on, that is definitely a ground problem. Also seems logical if some paint work was done, and paint is preventing a good ground.
Check all the little ground wires in the harness that are for the lighting. Make sure you scrape all that expensive paint off the sheetmetal underneath the grounds. If you did a lot of paint work on the frame, you may need to run a ground wire from the frame to the bed. You also should have the battery ground going to the engine block, and you should have some factory grounds straps from the back of the engine block to the firewall sheetmetal. You may want to run some ground wires to the frontend sheetmetal, and especially to the regulator to be sure the charging system will work.
IM also going to just switch out the wiring harness because i found some hacking on the wires i have a donor 79 right behind the house to get all of my parts from. And i will check every ground that there is also there is pics in m gallary of my new paint job.
I went through all of the grounds today i ground down a clean spot with the dremel and covered the area in delectric grease and tightened every thing down. I finished the rear tail light grounds, front light grounds and the engine to firewall ground. I also added a ground from the rear frame to the box and from the box to the cab to every thing should be grounded very good. Is there any thing im missing???????????
Hopefully the lighting will work now. If you have a seperate type regulator in the charging system, make sure it's grounded properly, or you may have the flashing headlight syndrome.
