Sadly so, I figured all the luxurious features the Expedition had would be implemented on the Excursion for the 2000 or at the latest the 2001 model year....but I guess not.

Exactly right! And I tried the procedure for the 2003 model and it ...... didn't work . My neighbor thought you could find a "chip" that might add features. Thoughts on his thought?

probably have to change the ecu or whatever you call it nowdays from a newer ex,

if you get one from the same vehicle ie from a 2003 onwards 6.8v10 in my case it might work , i have no heated seats and fancy stuff like that but i would imagine that it could work on the auto locking as thats in place but just not wired for it.

errr... maybe not ,i'm now thinking they changed the v10 engine slightly from memory , i think the 2003 ones have 3 valves per cylinder where as the early ones just have 2. so it would not run correctly
although someone who knows what they are doing will be able to say more on this.

Lol, doesn't hurt to try!

The only reason my truck has the autolock feature is because of my alarm system...

Three valves were not until the 2005 MY, even then the Excursion never got the 3 valve V10 as it was being phased out.

Might be worth a shot though, I think that some additional wiring may be necessary, but then again, if keyless entry works, why not?

thought it was something like that , but had no idea they never came across to the ex.

so that might be possible then , who's gonna be the guinea pig then ?

I love this discussion! Now we are getting somewhere. With that said, I believe the ECU is tied to the VIN on your vehicle and the only way to put in a new or different ECU is through your dealer. Is that true?

This thread is funny ... all this for an autolocking feature !

got to say , it is SO EASY to just flick the lock button when you get in the car.

but its the little things in life that make it so much more.

I cant belive that the ECU will know your VIN though. surely they are programmed before going on the production line and i bet they were just taken out of a large box full of them when being fitted.

just did a search and came up with this website

http://www.fordecu.com/inquiry/

might be worth an e-mail ? they do say just ask
theres no difference in price between the 2000 and the 2005 ECU

as examples they list the following.
ECU number's for the 2000 is ECU178214
2003 is ECU187267
2005 is ECU1109270

so there must be differences as they have different codes , but are they backward compatible i wonder ?

Well I submitted the question to Ford Engine Controls to see if they would recommend putting a 2005 ECU in my 2000 Ex. I'll update this post with there reply.
