A while ago (1 yr) I read and did the pull the wire thing to keep the lie o meter bright all the time. It worked fine, but all of a sudden it seems dim. I can barely read it in the day time. Fine at night.
Could it be that the LED's are starting to fail, or some other weirdness?
Anybody know how to remove the overhead console?
If you go to youtube, type in removing overhead console F/350/250/Ex and you'll see how easy it is to remove. It's usually a Diode that works itself loose, and needs to be reattached/ Soldered. I need to do this to my Ex as well. If memory serves me right, it's only one screw and then it all pulls down. There is also a guy that repairs these somewhere on the internet, I just can't remember the company name, but if you send it to him he will make the repair if your not comfortable to doing it yourself.
Again if you type in overhead console repair in the search engine the outfit that does this repair should pop up. I'll see if I can find it, if you don't manage to come up with it.

A few years ago, I sent mine to this place in Florida.FORD SUPERDUTY F250 F350 OVERHEAD CONSOLE COMPUTER REPAIR WE HAVE REPAIRED 4000+ | eBay
Inexpensive, perfect and complete fix. Quick turnaround too. Note, when you go to pull down the plastic shroud, it's going to make a horrible cracking noise like everything is breaking inside. It's just those barbed clips making that sound.
After removing the shell/trim, I wiggle tested the wire connector to the unit with engine running. LED indicator went from dim to bright. I pulled the unit and wiring connector. Noticed pins on unit looked a little crummy like maybe start of corrosion. Didn't have any contact cleaner, so I gave the pins & connector a shot of WD-40. Put it back together. Not a complete fix. Seems like something loose around the connector area. It went back to dim condition, I gave the shell/trim a whack and it came bright again. Just love intermittent electrical.
Here's a video I found on how go about the removal and the repair. Most of the time you can just push the little Diodes back down and this works. In some cases it does need to be soldered. Hopefully your just worked themselves loose is all.
Drove up to visit Mom for Thanksgiving. She's 90 in January. That makes me 70 in January. 450 miles each way.
It went dim on the way up, so I gave it a wack to the side of the head, and amazingly it straightened out for the rest of the trip.
Note: Those of you with kids or "snow flakes" as we call the election "weepers," might want to give that a try!
Will address the issue this week. Thanks for the video link.
I played with mine and tried resoldering the components that come loose, but was still intermittent. Ended up sending to the EBay guy. Lifetime guarantee and he does fast good work…
