First of all, let me say that I REALLY REALLY love my bronco. However, circumstances are such that we really need the cash and my bronco has helped contribute to that situation. So I am going to put it on Craig's list and I need to price it reasonably enough so that it sells as quick as possible, without shorting myself either. I was hoping you all could help me figure out a fair asking price.
It is a 1988 full size, 351 windsor with a C6 transmission. Four wheel drive. It has some rust on the tailgate and on the hood, but not much for being an 88. It has just under 105,000 miles. The interior is original and looks great to me. There are no tears in the seats or stains in the carpet. In the 1-1/2 years since I got it I've done the following:
* exhaust replaced from cat on back
* driver and passenger windows gear motors
* tailgate window motor gears
* water pump
* new radiator, including replacing upper and lower radiator hoses
* ignition switch
* starter
* tires
* nerf bars
* transmission modulator
* transmission kick-down cable
* prindal, shaft seal
* finally ended up having the transmission rebuilt
* converted the air conditioning from the old freon
* class 4 trailor hitch
On the down side:
* after converting the air, we discovered there is a small leak in the evaporator which I have not replaced yet, but that's a relatively easy and inexpensive fix.
* if you fill the gas tank up full, there is a leak at the top, so I don't generally fill it all the way up.
* the rear window does go down, using the back switch. the switch in the cab does not work.
* driver window has been tempermental
* small exhaust leak
* rear window seal needs to be replaced
* needs a tune up
* the trip odometer does not work
* grill is cracked
* top has never been off, but I'm not sure if that's a plus or negative. It can come off, but since it hasn't there isn't a problem with water leakage.
If you all were looking to sell this vehicle with these pluses/minuses, what kind of price range would you realistically ask?
well if you have only owned that rig for 1.5 years i suspect it has 200k miles on it because the od only shows 5 digits. pull a carfax to get a more accurate idea of the mileage.
i would start at 1800 based on what you stated. know that the stuff you fixed was the basic maintenance of the vehicle and cant be considered an increase in value per say. the tranny being rebuilt is a plus though.
Actually, the mileage is correct. It sat in a garage for a long, long time. Some of the hoses we replaced were original, stapled in place. We traced the mileage back from the titles. Wow, that's depressing. I was really hoping to get more out of it.......
I think they're giving you good feedback on pricing.
I looked at a '90 F150 4x4 this week that they were asking $325 for. It ran OK, wasn't in as good a shape as your Bronco. But the market is down there.
Yup, sub $1000 80s Bronco's with issues are pretty common out here in CA, sometimes up to $2000 in very nice shape. All of these supposedly run...
As of now on SF Bay CL: 1985 $1100, 1987 w 150k ("runs like champ") $1700, 1991 ("runs strong") $1300 obo, 1988 EB supposedly only 20k $1300, 1988 187k runs not reg'd $1000, 1988 EB $1500
So taking into account the current market, and the cosmetic/mechanical issues on your rig, I wouldn't expect to sell very fast at $1500 or more. $1000-$1400 is more reasonable.
these days, $1000.00 wold be more reasonable, but don't be surprised to be lowballed beneath this price.
20 year old gas guzzler is a niche market vehicle and you have to find the right person in order to get top dollar.
