Also looking to remove the kitty with a delete pipe, currently have banks turbo back 4" stainless ,close to Tinley, Mokena area and also I.A.F.F member local #3970
I would love to hear your setup! The 4" Banks sys still has a muffler, right?
I can't tell if you have aftermarket exhaust installed yet, or not.. If you don't, an MBRP cat or turbo back with a cat delete pipe is the easist way to go.. you will not get any codes(mine is an 03 CA engine also), and you'll be able to install/remove the cat in about a 1/2 hour if you need to.. it'll bolt to the downpipe and slip to the midpipe..this video is mine with no muffler or cat..

Extinguisher911, i haven't put the delete pipe on yet, im hoping for no modifications for it to slip on my banks 4" turbo back exhaust, crossing my fingers for it to just slip on where the kitty is....

No, I have not installed a kit. In order to keep costs down I was just looking to do a cat delete pipe, then possibly a muffler delete pipe. Spending $75-100 is cheaper than a kit.
I was also wondering if the cat delete pipes slip over the stock piping.
check out this piece.. your cat has studs that attach it to the downpipe, and a clamp at the rear.. a delete pipe will use bolts to attach it to the downpipe, and it will slip onto the pipe behind it and a clamp will seal it..

hmm...I am gonna have to pop my head under there and see things...
Ok, so I have been researching Cat delete pipes. Looks like nobody makes one for the stock 3.5" stock exhaust. Looks like to delete the Cat, I have to go with a muffler system. So hoping to stay on the cheap end is not going to work out...
NO....go to your local muffler shop and see if they can make you a slip-on piece. Most muffler places can expand it slghlty to alleviate the PITA problems of slipping it on.
You can also buy some clamps from them...
Bolts right in on your stock 3.5" exhaust. Took about a half hour. I had to use new bolts instead of the pressed in ones on the cat. Shipping was fast.
Has anybody just taken the cat of and knocked the guts out of it then put it back on. That way a visual inspection looks perfectly normal. How hard is it to get the cat of of the 04 system to clean it out??
That is a good idea but the only problem with that is if you ever get a smart tech bangin' on it to check for the honeycomb and it sounds hollow, now you have to fork out 400-500 for a new one.

I didn't think that everything would come out of it but more so making a straight through hole in the honeycomb material inside. The inspection here in NJ is nothing more than visual to insure that the components are all there so hopefully no difficulties with it.. I go to insp in November so will have a better feel for it then. Had our diesel VW done in June and engine wise very cursury, don't even think that they opened the hood. It is a stock 04 New Beetle with no mods though. The inspection covered pretty much only the normal systems , lights brakes wipers ect. They did check the gas cap though.
