I have a 2003 turbo 6.0 diesel. I have a 4 inch turbo back Megnaflow exhaust. My truck is about as quiet as it was stock. I want to keep the cat so I am legal and delete the muffler. Will this sound okay or will it give me a big HISS? I'd like to get a little deeper tone and I'm thinking by keeping the Cat on it will keep the turbo from screaming too hard. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks
Im pretty new at the diesels..... Just wanted deeper tone but not that air rushing hiss that the straight pipes make when turbo running. I figured running just with the cat would keep the turbo down and maybe not produce that hiss at idle. Thanks for your reply. Good luck on your exhaust project.
an empty cat doesnt change the tone much. My restriction was removed with an air hammer and a 24" bit.
there really is not a deeper exhaust note to be had unless you are at wot. Ill you will hear is the basass vacuum cleaner sound.

I would like to leave the cat for emissions and keep it legal. Ive heard some muffler deletes on youtube that sound great... Then others with the same muffler delete sounded like a vacuum. Maybe it was the pipe size. I dont know. I have 4 inch. I would hate to go through a muffler delete and find mine will have the vacuum sound. Thanks for all the replies.
no matter what you do it will have a vacuum sound. no that going in. the ones that are the loudist are the 03/04 units.

Thanks for the info. I have an '03, but thankfully it doesn't whistle too loud. I have kept the stock exhaust for that reason, but wouldn't mine a throatier sound, so have considered cat-back systems since I've heard the cat silences the whistle more than the muffler, guess that isn't true. I recently put on the Garrett Powermax turbo upgrade and suprisingly it whistles a little less than my stock '03 turbo. This is with stock tuning, and I think its because the turbo is spinning slower for the same amount of air flow.
yes, but if you want to swap to an 03 unit you will also need a pedistel for it.
I really need to clean the one I have sitting in the garage.

I tried the straight pipe on ONE trip and too loud
as well as "drones" too much for us in the "resonator can" our Ex's are...
may be ok in a pickup and with less sensitive ear, but not in my ex
I did a Walker BTM muffler only - just enough rumble for me and mine....
hear it in my signature.... good luck on your decision !

possibly after I disassemble and varify that it should function. I wont sale a part that I have not somewhat taken the time to varify its function. If you really want it send me a pm with an offer. I only still have it because I was thinking about running it on my truck.
