hi! the boot for my shifter is missing and i just bought a autozone hotrod style boot that im gonna rig up to it. my problem is the shaft starts out small then gets gradually thicker with some sort of rubber/plastic then goes to bare metal towards the bottom. is there any way to remove this?
What year is your truck? It is a 5spd? If so, no. That fat part of the shifter(1 3/8)Where the stock boot seals to the shifter is 1 1/4. Maybe if you unbolt the shifte from the trans then put the boot on then instal lthe shifter back on the trans
93 5 speed. ill take pics tomorrow but it dosent look like ill get this thing on without some serious cutting to the boot. i got one of those hotrod style ones. i know i was gonna have to cut anyway but this sucks even more.
Too remove the shifter take the nut off of the pass. side, put on driver's side and tighten, and that'll pull the pin out so you can take off the shift lever.
Or you could just use your POS boot and put a towel around it... Then no tranny whine and road noise leaks in and you have a towel for whatever apllications you may think of.
