2001 Edge Tranny Flush
I am going to flush my brother tranny this weekend and I need to know how much fluid the tranny holds. 2001 Ranger Edge 4.0 w/ 5 speed auto. Is there a tranny flush procedure for this tranny, or can I use the same procedure as a 4R100.

Look in the owners manual for the tranny capacity, if he has a 4X4, it'll likely take a little more fluid, as it has a deeper tranny pan & it'll take a different filter with a longer snout on it.
My 99 4X2 5R55E tranny system capacity is 10qts, so I buy a 12qt case, run an extra qt through it on the pump out, to allow for torque converter mixing & use the last qt to top up with.
Before raising the vehicle on stands to drop the pan, if you'll First disconnect the tranny return line at the cooler as outlined in the link & idle the engine with the vehicle Level, it'll remove most of the old fluid from the tranny pan & make the pan drop easier & Much less messy.
Level the vehicle after cleaning the pan & magnet & changing the tranny filter & reinstalling the pan, then refill the pan with the same amount removed & continue idling the engine for 15-30 seconds at a time, to continue the pump out, 1-2 qts at a time & top up, (so you don't run the tranny pump dry), until the full system capacity has been removed. This will get most of the old fluid out of the valve body, torque converter, cooler & lines, without running the tranny pump dry, which it'll appreciate!!!!
Let us know how it goes.
