My 2001 F250 with V10 and 3.73s has around 110,000 miles. I know the engine is strong but what can I expect out of this tranny. I have never got it hot and I did change and flush the tranny fluid at around 30,000.
Change tranny fluid and filter every 30k and rest easy.
Mine had 196k on it and it was still going strong with the exception of the coast clutch, which I was told here would not affect the other aspects of the transmission's function.
i got 182k on mine but i dont know if its original or not.. i should probably change the fluid this spring, it looks and smells good tho. how much these hold?
It depends on how it is treated and serviced. It is not unusual for a properly maintained 4R100 to go well past 200,000 even towing a lot. Improper maintenance and/or rough treatment will shorten the life of any transmission. You should change the fluid EVERY 30K, not just once at 30K. A full flush is best.
if your going to flush. get 21qts. i think the torque converter holds 7.. if your doing a pan drain, 7 is what the pan holds so get 8..
to the OP: ive got 98000 on mine, tow every day in the summer, plow in the winter. i do a flush every 40k miles. know a guy with a 99 7.3 225k miles on the original trans.
188,000 on mine. The tranny flluid, filter, torque converter, and transfer case are changed every 30,000. I tow a 24k plus horse trailer every weekend March - August. In hay season I tow an 8 bale hay trailer. The bales weigh 1275-1400 lbs and there are between 2000 and 2500. These are moved approximately 1 1/2 miles then are placed on semi. The truck is in 4wd a lot during this time. When I bought this truck I did not want an automatic as I wanted the 5 speed, but a 6 speed was only manual available. I am not a fan of buying things the first year they are out as it seems to take a while to shake things out. I would definitely put a 6.0 tranny cooler on it. Santa is taking care of that from edparts guy for me. If I had seen a picture of the two coolers side by side I would have already did that.
Yes, there is a drain plug on the converter. The flush does take around 21 quarts and changes all of the oil in the cooler and lines.
My tranny is not acting up at all just was curios.
Thanks for the replies.
Also, it has been a while but I believe the owners manual calls for regular Mercon. Not Mercon V.
