Tranny Flush ?

Hey guy's just had my torqshift tranny flushed at a local reputable Ford dealership...my question is on the receipt it states they used a "PF5 Service kit-$19.31" it does not state a filter was replaced.....does anyone know what this PF5 service kit is???.....isn't the PF5 the machine they use to flush the tranny?...I shoulda ask them but i just wanna make sure i have a new "external" filter.....any help appreciated guys!

The PF5 maching is a fluid exchange machine made by BG products. The service kit consists of a "cleaner" and then a "conditioner". Very good products, I have used all the BG products for years and have had excellent luck. You will have to ask them if they changed the ext. filter or not. If not its no bug deal you can do it yourself.

Shouldnt loose too much, maybe pick up a couple quarts of fluid just to be on the safe side before you change it?

unless your truck is a d max or a new 6.4 twin turbo your tranny has an internal filter which cant be changed unless you want to drop the pan. the flush will get the filter 95 percent clean so you can flush it two or maybe three times then i would change the filter. i usually go fourty thousand on the flushes.

Wrong...The 6.0 pretty much just has a screen in the tranny pan...the actual filter is a external filter.

Or you can upgrade to the 08 Ford tranny pan and internal filter. I got both sitting in a box waiting to turn 30,000 on my 06. From what I've read the external filter is actually a bypass filter.

The dealer (probably) didn't change the external filter, they're missing a really easy money maker but that's the way they do it.

I did a search for you, it's a really cheep easy DIY (22MM socket and a really hard pull ((it will come off)).

I changed my tranny fluid and both filters right after I bought my truck. It was extremely easy. I had a hell of a time getting that external filter housing off though.

They started with the first 6.0L in 2003 and continued for every 6.0L built. No 6.0L automatic truck left the factory without an external filter.

That's why one should not get important work done at a quick lube shop.
