Anyone ever use the gauges? I found a set on Amazon, smoke tint when they are off, light up when on. I think they are kinda cool, but are they accurate?
This is the link to them, they are no Autometer, I know this, I use Autometer in the Buick Turbo car, but I like these for my truck. Just wondered if anyone has had any luck with these?
I'm curious to know as well, as I really need a set on my Supercharged V-10. (Fuel Press, Vacuum/Boost combo and Trans Temp) I don;t want to spend several hundred dollars to find out that they are junk...
They certainly are not the best quality, but they are hundreds cheaper than isspro and autometer. I have also had problems with autometer before as well so just like anything else, you can always get a bad one no matter how much you spend.
I had no problems installing them, i wired them all outside the truck so i could solder all the connections. also they match the green of the dash perfectly.
ive got the 7 colour tinted fuel boost and pyro gauges. they look awesome
installation is ok, i would highly recommend the 3 gauge wiring harness and 2 of the normal gauge extension harnesses just for ease of installlation and flexibility. the colour coding is basic, and easy to use. it ends up being a lot of wires. red for 12v switched, yellow 12v constant, black ground, blue and green and brown are sensor wires, orange is dimmer.
the gauges do a nice sweep upon starting. my issue so far (only about a month) is the boost gauge being mechanical and not having a remote sender unit. if anything pinches or breaks the boost line you lose the gauge
otherwise im happy with them so far but havent had them too long
i am very happy with the look and when they are off they black out and become hard to see! its nice because then people cant get too nosy when passing by your vehicle.
Where did you tap into the fuel system at? I am hoping between me and my 18 y/o we can do this from home. Money is tight, and my wheelchair makes somethings difficult.
I have them and love them. Only problem I've seen is in really cold temps, once or twice the backlight didn't come on. It was an easy fix - key off for a few seconds, then back on.
Can't speak to accuracy since the readouts are for gauges I don't have digital access to via my UltraGauge (Oil Temp, Trans Temp), but from what I've read about ambient temp and trans temp, it seems to be in line.
Pluses - you can daisy chain the power...minus - it's a pin system, and you have to push the plug in pretty far to snap into place. My issue was the distance from the sensor to the port in the firewall then to the center of the dash only gave me about 4" of slack, so it was a PITA to get it plugged in and snapped into place. At some point in the future I'll probably make a better route for the wiring (make my own port in the firewall) to give me that extra slack.
Install for me was easy - the test port in the trans and the sandwich adapter for the oil:
NOTE: Get wrap for the wiring if you do the sandwich adapter - the plastic on mine started melting on day one, so I got the metal heat tape and wrapped the wire.
I just installed mine last week. I went with the MaxTow Double Vision series. Here is the link to the thread down in the 7.3 section...posts 53 and 55 explain the install step by step. Your fuse panel may be different on the 05, but the concept is the same.
It's one of those little rechargable flashlights...it sits in your cig lighter charging till you need it. I moved it to a switched outlet in the center console now.
